Day One ~ Preparing for General Conference

The countdown to LDS General Conference has begun!  Starting today, I will be posting ideas for each of us to use in our homes and families in order to be prepared to hear the will of the Lord through our Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson.  These ideas will be based around one of my favorite scriptures from the Doctrine and Covenants, section 88 verse 119:

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house,
even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning,
a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."

1) Get organized

One of the biggest distractions when watching General Conference from the comfort of our home is an unorganized, unclean, and unprepared home.  If you start now, you'll be prepared with everything you need for that weekend.  Make a list of everything you think you may need to do to be prepared and then get working on it.  For instance, start planning your meals for that weekend and purchase necessary ingredients this week.

Start by organizing the area where you will be watching General Conference.

* Clean out your couches and underneath them.
* Wash any blankets or throws that you will be using.
* If there are piles of unorganized dvds, organize them and put them away.
Same goes for magazines, catalogs and books.
* Clean off your remote controls.
* Are there windows in that area?  Wash and clean your windows and blinds.

Once that is done, just maintain it by clearing out clutter,
vacuuming and dusting until Conference weekend.
