2012 Color of the Year

It's here...the 2012 color of the year!  The Pantone website has tons of ideas and ways that colors are used in upcoming clothing and home decor collections.  Check it out if you have time!

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2011 – Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, a vivacious, enticing hue, as the color of the year for 2012.
The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Recycled Cashmere Blanket

Love this idea!  Because I am always on the lookout for good wool sweaters to use in rugs, I occasionally find cashmere or a really great sweater that I can't take apart.  Using them for this project would make me happy!

Hostess With the Mostess...Cute Ideas!

I love party ideas, and the Hostess with the Mostess blog has tons of them!  She gathers all of the great party ideas from around the web and categorizes them for you.  And let me tell you...they are all amazing!  I love when creative people share their ideas with everyone.  :)  Check out the cute baby shower "Milkaholic" ideas below, plus other fun ones!

Cute table!  Love the black and white with a pop of turquoise.

I love the idea of a dessert table for Thanksgiving!  And...look how simple it would be to add a long piece of jute to the front of the table, gather together wooden clothespins, and attach a note of thanks from each guest!  It would definitely add to the sweetness of the display!  :)

Look how the loaves of bread are gift wrapped so simply and so cute.  Love it!

How can you not love this snowman standing in the falling snow?

Dinner Ideas

I dread 5:00 each day if I don't have a plan for dinner!  There is nothing worse in a household of boys than to hear "What's for dinner?" and not have something already cooking.  On the flip side, there is nothing better than to have it planned, cooking, and ready to serve BEFORE they get hungry!  Here are a couple of sites that are helpful in planning dinner.  After all, you already know each day that your family will be hungry later on.  Why not plan in advance and save yourself the stress?

I love Food on the Table!  They take your local grocery store sale flyer, match it with what you feel like cooking this week, and then allow you to either input your own recipes or give you suggestions for cooking.  After that, you can print off your grocery list and head over to your store!  Or even better, have them send it to your cell phone so that you don't misplace it.

Go to Meals Matter and input your information.  You can plan your meals, get recipe ideas, and print it off.  Good ideas here!

Check out a sample menu from The Dinner Page.

Check out the Crock Pot Girls site for lots of recipes using your slow cooker!

Everyday Food ~ Love it!

Okay, I love cooking and decorating and organizing our home, but I really love cooking and decorating and home organizing magazines!  It's easy to get too many and then they all start to look the same.  One that I have loved for years and actually keep on hand to refer back to regularly is Martha Stewart's Everyday Food.  It seems to have a lot of articles and recipes that really appeal to how I cook and how our family eats.  If you've forgotten about this little gem, it's time to check it out again!

You can also check out the Everyday Food Blog!

There used to be an Everyday Food show on PBS, but I haven't seen it recently.
Check out the website for all of the past episodes, with dozens and dozens of recipes!

Designer Fabrics ~ Great Prices!

If you love to reupholster, make throw pillows, or sew with designer fabrics, then this website is for you!  At NewToto, I have found fantastic prices on fabric pieces that I normally would not be purchasing due to the high price.  Their trims and tassels section is also great with good colors to go with your fabrics.  It's a great site to check out on a regular basis!

Preparing for General Conference - Your Home

We hear so much about preparing spiritually for General Conference and it is all good and wonderful.  However, I think that if you are spending time watching it in your home, anything that you can do to prepare your home for your family as they watch it will be extremely beneficial.

Here are some of the things that I like to do:
* Get current on the laundry.  I hate to have that hanging over my head all weekend!
* Clean out refrigerator, cupboards and pantry.
* Prepare menu with items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.  Make sure that I have Monday morning's food and sack lunch items ready as well.
* Vacuum, dust and straighten rooms where we will be spending time
* Wash the windows!  I love having the sunlight come in while we are together.
* Have notebooks, pens, scriptures, highlighters, etc. ready for use.  Gather them in advance!
* Get enough sleep on Saturday night.  I like to have clean sheets this weekend as well.

I like to ponder during the week on what questions I need answered, what things I need to improve on, and the messages that will pertain to me and our children.

Happy Conference!

Unclutterer Post ~ Good Ideas!

I just wanted to share this post from Unclutterer.  It makes perfect sense to me!  These are all good questions to ask yourself when organizing, dejunking, and cleaning out an area of your home.  Enjoy!

Questions to ask of your things when uncluttering

The earthquake and hurricane this past week on the east coast have left me glad I made August’s resolution to update my “In case of …” file. Mother Nature sure knows how to drive home a point in a really big way.
In addition to creating the file, I’ve also started to take a new approach to how I see the items in my home. Not only is the stuff we own there to serve my family’s needs and bring us joy, but it is also stuff that someone else might have to deal with in case of an accident. Obviously, I hope no one else ever has to deal with our things, but it’s important to consider that it is a possibility.
Now, as part of the questioning process I consider when uncluttering items in my home and office, I’ve added another question to the list:
  • Do I have something else like this that fulfills the same purpose?
  • If this is a duplicate item, which of these items is in the best condition, of the best quality, and will last me the longest?
  • Is this item in disrepair and need to be replaced or fixed?
  • Does this item make my life easier/save me time/save me money/fulfill an essential need?
  • Why does this object live in our house and is this the best place for this object?
  • Do I need to do more research to know if this is the best object to fulfill its essential need?
  • If this is a perishable item, has its expiration date passed?
  • Will this item be easy for someone else to deal with in case I am not capable of doing so?
  • Does this item help me to develop the remarkable life that I want to live?

Love this! ~ Houzz.com

I think this is my new favorite website ~ http://www.houzz.com/.

It is full of ideabooks for home decorating, design, remodeling, and anything else you can imagine with your home.  Once a week, I get an email with updated ideabooks and they are full of fabulous tips and tricks and great photos of different home spaces with a variety of themes.  For example, it has ideabooks incorporating nursery ideas, color ideas (how to use navy blue), great uses for beadboard, lighting, color, patterns, etc.  And you can create your own ideabook to use for your next remodeling project!

This is a great site for anyone interested in decorating and design.  It's full of good ideas!

Money Saving Tips & Tricks ~ Great Ideas!

I have some great links to blogs that I read for homemaking tips, money saving tricks, and other ideas to keep our home running smoothly (well, as smooth as it can be during the summer!).  Take a peek when you have a spare minute or two...you might find something to help calm the chaos in your home and life too!

Check out her downloadable lists.  I especially like her information on how to do a freezer meal day!

This site won't let me load a photo of it, so just click on the link below.
It's a good place to start if you are new to couponing or just need a refresher course!

This site lets you choose which store you want to shop at, what types of meals you need (including gluten-free), how many servings you need, and then gives you a meal plan with the grocery list.

Love the great organizing ideas at Organizing With Sandy!  Great post on
"Organizing Your Files" that everyone should read.  I know lots of people are going digital, but I am not one of them (yet), so it's good to see examples of how people organize their files.

Okay, that's all for now!  Have a great week!

Favorites!

Just thinking about some of my favorite things!

Bobbi Brown Tortoise Shell Collection in Sand.  The perfect neutrals!  Love this line of makeup!

You may think that ebay is just an online garage sale.  In some ways, it is.  However, I use it for family history!  Just type your family surnames into the search box and see what comes up.  You can also type in place and location names.  I have been lucky enough to find some great antique plates, paintings, fabrics, and other items that I absolutely love, even more so because they have a little bit of family tied to them!  Save your searches and ebay will do the work for you - anytime something is listed, it will send you an update.

I love looking at different garden plans, and the Better Homes and Garden website has lots from which to choose!
Check out their garden plans, plant encyclopedia, and container garden recipes.

Just a fun blog for you to check out!  Love the recipes and the kitchen ideas.
